Proposal for consideration at the AGM: 

That the following court time revisions are made: 

Monday – Matches from 9pm – 3 courts 

Wednesday – CLUB NIGHT – 2 courts from 8.15pm and a further 2 courts from 8:40pm 

(all quiet on other 2 courts for first 25 mins – just karate) 

Thursday – Matches from 8:15pm – 2 courts 

Any overflow matches could be played on Wednesdays from 8.40 

If you have any opinions on this proposal please either come to our AGM on Monday 6th July or 

make your views known to a Committee Member who will speak on your behalf at the AGM

Our web provider (186k) were on-the-ball and detected this, taking our site offline as a precaution.

Fee Reduction!

Great news: we've been successful this year in reducing our court time and shuttle use, so have agreed at the AGM to reduce our membership fees :D

Change of club night start time

The college hall has been withdrawn from use; to accommodate the fitness classes they have to provide, Totton Recreation Centre have moved our Monday night booking back by 15 minutes.

Club nights will now run from 8:15 pm to 10:45 pm (2 courts only before 9:15pm).

Our match night bookings are also changing which may mean we don't have enough court time at Totton Rec for all of our matches! Also, we would be sharing the hall with a fitness class for the first hour on both of our match nights which is obviously less than ideal.

If you know of alternate venues (for match nights, club nights or (preferably) both), please contact me!

Mixed Doubles Result

Following a single round-robin group of seven pairs, Jo & Doug were in first place and three pairs were in joint second having each won 3 games; we therefore totted up the points putting Erica & Rob in second place.

Eric and Rob then narrowly beat Jo & Doug in the final 21-19.

Community Badminton Event

Our BadmintonEngland comunity open evening is happening tonight at Totton Recreation Centre from 8:30pm.

Members are encouraged to come along and help introduce/reintroduce people to our wonderful sport.

Level Doubles Results

The matches were quite close all night and both finals were hard fought (up to the point Paul finally "broke" his shoulder, at least); my personal thanks go to Karen, Jo and Sarah who were kind enough to partner me in my mens doubles matches when Dan had to drop out due to work commitments.

Here you'll find mens and ladies T-Shirts with either the MP logo or "Badminton Evolution" graphic on the front and the full MatchPoint logo on the back.

All prices are cost (we make no mark-up) and differ due to the base t-shirt manufacturer, printing and third-party graphics commission ("Badminton Evolution").

I hope to find the time to convert our current bitmap graphics into vector ones which will allow us to add hoodies and polo shirts to the range.

Improve Your Play

Three more "Improve Your Play" nights have been announced; they will take place on the first Monday clubnight of February (6^th), March (5^th) and April (2^nd).

They will take place towards the end of clubnight on 1 or 2 courts (subject to demand) and are open to all members so come along if you want to improve your: serve; forehand; backhand; net shots; clears; tactics; or indeed anything else!

Mens Doubles

After the 6-team round-robin, the top two pairs played the final and the next two played for 3^rd place.

In the final, Theresa Smith & John Hepworth were victorious over Chrissie Bynam & Matt Pascoe with Helen Suter & Yip Lieu third.

MatchPoint Level Doubles Result

The results from the first tournament are in.

Mens Doubles

After a close 5-team round-robin, the top two pairs played the final and the next two played for 3^rd place.

In the final, Pete Burgess & Tony Carter took honours from Paul Hoff & David Strugnell with Chris Luscombe & Matt Pascoe third.

Ladies Doubles

Again, the top two pairs contested the final with Alice Morrice & Fiona Norton winning over Jo Francis & Linda Stephenson (who won all of their double-round-robin matches!). Carolyn Cooper & Theresa Smith were third.

Many thanks to Mike Newton-Woof for running the evening and to Paul Hoff who turned up to watch and ended up as stand-in for injured Darran Taylor.

National Badminton Week

Next week (14^th to 22^nd) October is National Badminton Week.

A £10 reduction per person is made where BadmintonEngland and Hampshire fees are paid elsewhere.

Yearly membership fees can be paid in two halves: the first by the end of September, the second by the end of December. Unfortunately, due to huge cash flow issues at the start of the season, this option will carry a £20 surcharge this year.

Additionally, a LATE payment surcharge of £10 will be levied to any outstanding fees from 1^st January 2007.

Members who choose to pay the Bronze fee will NOT be considered for team selection, but may be selected as a reserve if they so wish!

AGM date changed

The AGM has been moved from Monday 3rd July to Monday 24th July. The location (Totton Rec upstairs cafe) and time (7:30pm) remain unchanged.

Please consider which teams you want to play in for the 06/07 season (we need to get numbers at the AGM if possible). If you can't come to the AGM please let me know by email on the address below.

Mixed Doubles Champions

A superb performance by Theresa Smith dragged John Hepworth through to become mixed doubles champions with Sonia Doublet and Mike Newton-Woof runners up.

Level Doubles Champions

Well done Jo Francis and Fiona Norton for becoming the 2006 Ladies Doubles champions (Kim Marsh and Nicky Saunders runners-up).

Well done also to Paul Hoff and Mike Newton-Woof, our new Mens Doubles champions (John Hepworth and Steve Irvine coming second).

AGM

The new pricing structure has begun to replenish our working capital so membership prices remain unchanged this year.

Ian Bland stepped down as Club Secretary and Craig Paget stepped down as Treasurer. We thank them for their efforts during their tenures, especialy Craig for seven years manning the financial rudder.

Club Coaching

MatchPoint is running four club coaching nights with Jamie Russell.

The coaching will take place 8:30pm - 10:30pm on Thursday nights : June 30^th, July 7^th, 14^th and 21^st.

The coaching will cost £8 per session or £27 for all four. To book your place, add your name onto the list on the club notice board or contact Ian Bland.

Totton Rec floor FIXED

Monday club-nights are BACK ON starting 9^th May

The floor has been completly "renewed" which should hopefully see the end of problems with the floor.

Our grand reopening is Monday 9^th May at 8:00pm. Please come along and support the club (bring a friend is you can!). This club is your club and we weed your support now more than ever.

We upgraded our hosting over the weekend which caused the site to go down for a while but all is well and we're back.

MatchPoint Xmas meal has been arranged for 7:30pm Thursday 16th December at the Southampton Novatel. The price will be £23 per person.

AGM Decisions

Well, the dust has settled after the 2004 AGM. The big news is that from this Septembers renewal, members will be able to choose from two levels of membership fees:

1. £115 full membership fee, no club-night fee for full members


2. £95 full membership fee, £1 club-night fee

That's right, you can choose which you want to do! The numbers above are for full single members, other types (concession, join, pay-n-play) will rise accordingly; full details to follow.

The club coaching with Jamie Russell has now finished and was a huge success; I've had nothing but positive feedback. A big thank you to Jamie, Charmaine and Alex and all the members that were able to take part.

Issues for the AGM

Membership Fees

At the committee meeting of 6/7/4, it was decided that the club needs to increase it's income to cover increased costs. This decision hasn't been taken lightly - the membership fee has only risen £5 in the last six years!

At the AGM (26/7/4) the members will be asked to decide which of two options to select:

1. £115 full membership fee, no club-night fee for full members


2. £95 full membership fee, £1 club-night fee

Other membership fees to increase in-line.

Secretary

After many years of 200% effort, Jo Francis has decided to step down as Secretary and committee member. Having reviewed a list of the tasks that Jo has accumulated, the committee has decided to split the office into Club Secretary and Match Secretary.
